This site will document the restoration process of the 1960 Chevrolet Corvair I purchased on January 20, 2007. Since I live in Tarija, Bolivia, these pages will all have details of the process as it moves along in both English and Spanish.

Acording to various part numbers, this car was fabricated by General Motors specifically for export in the fourth week of March of 1960.  Officially, it was taken out of service and the license plates turned in 1990.

I don’t get to spend as much time on this as I’d like as I have companies to run in two cities. At the moment I’m in month 28, although doing little with the car as I await a new flywheel and pressure plate from the US. since the old ones apparently weren’t well balanced by the shop I used. In the 28 months I’ve spent ablut 290 days in Tarija, divided between work, customers, and the car.

The upholsterer should be finishing the carpeting, the body shop is doing some touchup and sealing. I’ll be back in Tarija in June to put the soundproofing on the floor, install the interior and pull the engine/transmission assemble to replace the flywheel and pressure plate.

Este sitio estará documentando el proceso de la restauración del Chevrolet Corvair que compré el 20 de enero de 2007. Por lo que vivo en Tarija, Bolivia, estas páginas tendrán todos los detalles del proceso en Ingles y Español.

De acuerdo a varios números de piezas, este auto fue fabricado por la General Motores para exportación en la cuarta semana de Marzo del año 1960.   Oficialmente fue retirado de las calles y sus placas entregadas al gobierno en el año 1990.

No llego a pasar tanto tiempo en Tarija como quisiera por mis obligaciones a mis dos empresas en dos ciudades. Ahora estoy en el mes 28, pero hago poco con el auto mientras espero la llegada de un nuevo volante y prensa de embrague, ya que aparentemente la maestranza que usé para reacondicionar los originales no hizo un buen trabajo. En estos 28 meses he estado en Tarija unos 290 días, divididos entre mi trabajo, clientes y el auto.

El tapicero debería estar terminando la alfombra y el chapista está retocando y sellando todo. Volveré a Tarija a principios de Junio para poner el aislante de sonidos al piso, instalar el interior y bajar el motor con la transmisión para cambiar el volante y la prensa.
